Forward Deployed Engineer
One senior engineer, embedded in your business, accountable from the first conversation to production and past launch. Not a resource you rent by the hour. A person whose name is on the outcome.
Eight jobs. One name in the second column.
Every delivery has these eight jobs in it. The only question is how many people they are spread across, and how many gaps that creates.
What actually happens once they land.
Days 1–2: they meet the problem, not the ticket
Your engineer sits with whoever owns the outcome, reads your support inbox, and asks your operations lead why a workflow exists. That is where the real requirements live, and it is the step most engagements skip.
Days 3–4: the approach, written down and argued with
A short technical plan you can disagree with, including what they intend not to build. Cheaper to have that argument now than in week six.
Days 5–8: building, in your repo, against your CI
Working software you can look at, not a status update. Reviewed diffs, tests where they earn their keep, no surprises waiting at the end.
Days 9–10: shipped, watched, owned
Deployed with monitoring and a rollback path. Then they stay on it, because the person who wrote it is the fastest person alive at fixing it.
Three ways to work with us. This is one.
Same bench, different shape. Pick the wrong one and you pay for coordination you did not need.
This is the wrong shape about a third of the time.
We would rather tell you now than three months in.
Take this when
- The problem is clear but the solution is not, and someone has to decide.
- You have been through a build that shipped late and missed the point.
- Your team is capable but has no capacity to own something new.
Take something else when
- You have a spec you trust and need hands. Ask for staff augmentation.
- The programme needs six people in parallel. Ask for a dedicated team.
- Nobody internally can give an engineer direct access to the problem.
Before you book the call.
No, and the difference is accountability. A contractor executes a plan you already made. A forward deployed engineer helps make the plan, is expected to push back on the brief, and owns the result in production. If you already have a spec you trust, straight staff augmentation is cheaper and we will say so.
About two hours in week one, then your normal standup. The one thing we need is direct access to whoever owns the problem. If every question routes through a coordinator, you have rebuilt the chain this model exists to remove.
We pull specialists from the bench for defined pieces while the forward deployed engineer stays the single owner. One person accountable beats responsibility spread across a standing team.
A flat monthly rate for the time the engineer is deployed, with a notice period rather than a lock-in. No separate line for project management or handover, because there is nothing to coordinate. We quote against your scope on the first call.
Bring us the problem, not the spec.
Thirty minutes. You will leave knowing whether one deployed engineer is the right shape, including when it is not.
